Personal Vow Sample


                                                        Tips for personalizing your vows

Some couples like to write their own vows. Personal vows can be recited before the more traditional vows offered in our scripting or just on their own. We offer some tips and ideas for writing your own personal vows that couples have used in the past and some that can include children. 

  • What is the single greatest thing about the person you are going to marry?
  • When did you know that you were in love/ know that this person was the one you wanted to marry
  • What does marriage mean to you? 
  • Why do you want to be a married to this person?
  • What is your most favorite memory of your partner?

“I, _____, trust you, ____, to be my guide on this journey through the rest of my life. I trust that you will forgive and forget my mistakes, and celebrate my triumphs. I promise to do the same and look forward to learning as much as we can, together, as team. From the moment we met, I have discovered a unique bond with a truly special person. Adding humor to you Vows 

Add an extra promise to your vows. examples "I promise to make your favorite chocolate chip pancakes on Sundays. "I vow to split the difference on the thermostat." “I love you even though your second love is ice fishing.”


Wedding vows to include children

"My love, You have already given me the two greatest gifts of my life:

your love, and our beautiful child. (children) Today, it is my honor to become your wife/husband. I promise to continue building our family together, celebrating our joy, comforting one another in hard times, and strengthening our family's future. I vow to love and cherish you for all the days of my life."


Wedding vows with one partner having a child

"____, you are my soul mate and best friend. Today I ask you to be my wife/husband and companion. I commit myself to you for the rest of our lives together and beyond. Please share with me in guiding my (boys/girls or children),_____ (child 1) and ______,(child 2) as we unite as a family. " (or unite our families if both partners are involving children.

Not only do I promise to be a good husband/wife to you, but I also give my promise to be a patient, loving father/mother to __________ and________, caring for them and providing for them as my own. I promise to be their strength and their emotional support, loving them with all my heart from this day forward.


Wedding Vows including Children with gift

________ (Child or children) Would you please come and join ________ (Couples names )

________ & _________(Couple) would like to present this ________(necklace, bracelet, family unity pendant, etc.)as a symbol of family unity, representing the hope and joy made visible through this marriage being celebrated today. This ________(necklace, bracelet, ring, or other token) represents your family and your love for each other. In the giving of this ________ (token), do you both pledge to _______________(Child or children) your commitment to surround and support _______ (him/her/them) with unconditional love as you all share in your new life together?Couple responds "We do" and places the item on the child.

I want to be as a father/mother to you, and I invite you into my heart. We will have happy times together, you and your Mother/Father and I.
